February Meeting Update

Hey Folks,

Just wanted to remind everyone about the Delmarva United Homebrewers meeting and Throwdown that will be happening this coming Thursday, February 21st. The events will be taking place at Dogfish Head in Rehoboth. The Throwdown will start around 7:15pm in the upstairs dining room. As an added bonus, Jason Weissberg from the pub has invited our group to sample some brats/sausages. I've included that information at the bottom of this note. First, information about the Throwdown. The ThrowDown is a club competition where everyone at the meeting judges the entries and votes for their 3 favorites. The results are then scientifically tabulated and the winners announced and awarded prizes. We have gift certificates from Xtreme Brewing and 5-Star Products for the winning entries. How do you enter? Here are the simple rules:

IMPORTANT: Entry Fee: $5 (does not include $1 meeting donation)

Rules:

1. One entry per household

2. Entries accepted starting at 6:45pm upstairs at Dogfish Head (20 entry maximum, 1st come, 1st entered)

(If you're late or never made it past the bar downstairs - see rule 4...entries stop at 7:15pm)

3. Bring AT LEAST four 12oz. bottles or two 22oz. bombers or one 1/2 gallon growler. Any labels will obliterated.

4. No complaining. No recounts. No alliances. Contest officials accept bribes but they'll do you no good.

In addition to the prize packages for the winning brewers, we will be doing door prizes for everyone in attendance. Xtreme Brewing, Henlopen City Oyster House, The Pickled Pig Pub and 5-Star Products have generously donated some additional goodies for us to giveaway during this event. When you offer your $1 meeting donation, you will be given a raffle ticket which cements your entry into the prize pool.

....And now this from Jason Weissberg at Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats

The pub is looking to add some beer inspired sausages to our upcoming menu. We have six different varieties to taste and try before we make a decision on the best flavor combination. Who better to decide on the best tasting sausage but beer lovers and nobody loves beer more than DUH. I would like to invite you all to help us taste and decide which flavor combinations work best. Your feedback is really important. The tasting is of course free and will be happening on Thursday February 21, before your competition. The tasting will be set up and ready to go at 5:30PM until the competition begins. Thank you in advance for your help and look forward to seeing you all Thursday night.

Cheers and Thank you,

Jason

Hope to see everyone on Thursday!

Terry

February Meeting Information

Hey Folks,

Just wanted to get this short reminder out to all of the members of the Delmarva United Homebrewers (DUH) about the change-of-date for the February meeting, and information about the 'ThrowDown' that will be taking place at the February meeting.

The February meeting which would normally take place on the 2nd Thursday of the month, has been moved to the 3rd Thursday for February to accommodate all of you sappy romantics that want to celebrate Valentine's Day. What this means is the meeting will not be held on February 14th, but will instead be held on Thursday, February 21st at 7pm at Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats. To make up for this inconvenience, we will be hosting the 2nd DUH ThrowDown Competition. What the hell is that? Read on....

3. Bring AT LEAST four 12oz. bottles or two 22oz. bombers or one 1/2 gallon growler. Any labels will obliterated.

Why are we doing all of this? Read on...

The National Homebrewers Conference is taking place in Philadelphia in late June. DUH will be pouring beer at a huge Friday night event called 'Club Night' (catchy name, eh?). We are going to use funds raised from this Throwdown and hopefully another one in May to cover some costs that are going to be incurred during this event. If you are interested in brewing beer for the event, Lori Brown has created this snazzy document to assist us in getting our act together.

The link for DUH's brewing efforts for the NHC Club-night can be found here:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aj6Cuknn68JXdDQyLUVpU3A4WjMtR2VtVlVsMDlsSmc&usp=sharingthis

We will be using this spreadsheet to track what beverages everyone is planning to donate for DUH's booth at club night. Anybody with this link can edit, so if you know you're brewing for DUH, please open it up and fill in your info. Please enter the date you expect it to be ready and use one line per beer. Xtreme Brewing has generously donated 20 corny kegs for members to fill with fermented goodies for this conference. If you want to brew a beer for the event and need a keg, contact myself or Jimmy and we'll coordinate a drop-off. If you are coming to any of the regular club meetings between now and May (or whenever we run out of kegs), we can bring them to the meeting as well (including the February meeting). If you are planning to brew for the conference, please be realistic in your abilities to deliver the beer as promised. If you commit to brewing 55 gallons of Russian Imperial Stout - make sure you brew 55 gallons of Imperial Stout :-)

I think that's all for now. Hope to see everyone at the ThrowDown on February 21st. If you have any further questions, or want me to bring any empty kegs to the meeting, just drop me a note.

Cheers,

Terry
